DIRI International Conference on Aadhaar, ISB, Hyderabad
July 11 - July 13
The Digital Identity Research Initiative (DIRI) at the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad announces the inaugural International Conference on Digital Identity being held between July 11-13, 2018 at the ISB campus in Hyderabad, India. This edition of the conference focuses on Aadhaar, the world’s largest biometric identification system developed by the Unique Identity Authority of India (UIDAI).
The Digital Identity Research Initiative at ISB has three goals:
- Production of high quality and timely research on digital identity, with a focus on Aadhaar, to address critical knowledge gaps
- Targeted engagement with relevant stakeholders to ensure that research results can inform policy and strategy decisions, while the findings are effectively disseminated to ensure easy and wider access
- Build a global research ecosystem for Digital Identity, with a focus on India
In furtherance of these goals, the conference seeks to (a) create a space for dialogue around various social, political and economic aspects of how Aadhaar is used in public service delivery and the public policy connotations of such usage, (b) build a community of scholars, practitioners and activists working on Aadhaar and related aspects to continue the dialogue in multiple arenas and venues, and (c) enable multi-disciplinary and multi-actor collaborations to produce knowledge on all aspects of digital identity, especially Aadhaar.
The conference will have a number of panel discussions dedicated to various aspects of digital identity and Aadhaar, including, but not limited to privacy & data security, invisible populations, financial inclusion, benefits transfer, legal aspects etc. Interspersed with these panels would be poster sessions and lightning talks providing researchers the opportunity to present their current and ongoing research. This conference is a unique opportunity to interact and have wide-ranging discussions with researchers, practitioners and policymakers working on digital identity, especially Aadhaar.
To allow for broader participation at the conference, DIRI and ISB are providing limited, merit-based support for delegate travel or accommodation (but not both). However, space at the conference is limited – please indicate your interest early.
